Playing Keyboard Bass Lines
Playing Keyboard Bass Lines - Piano Method
95 pages, Item number 1700890ED, $16.95

Traditionally, keyboard players have played two different roles in the making of jazz--first, as members of the rhythm section, and second, as solo performers. In recent years, with advances in electronic keyboard development and decreases in music performance and recording budgets, the keyboardist is more often required to play multiple roles. Electronic keyboards have now made the dual role of pianist and bassist more prevalent. Playing left hand bass while playing chords and/or melodies in the right hand presents some problems to the average keyboardist, however. In essence, he or she must play two different instrumental roles at the same time.

This book attempts to present some solutions to this problem. Examples of bass lines in various styles and situations form the main part of this book. These examples are arranged into exercises that will enhance the learning of the concepts and material. Suggestions for and examples of right hand accompanying parts are presented with each different style. Players of all levels will benefit from the focus on: walking bass lines, playing in a "two-feel," waltz time, and Latin styles. The exercises for each chapter are recorded on the accompanying CD, making this the most complete learning tool available.
